How long does it take to scan one item?
Standard scanning time of an object takes 6 minutes generating 288 professional photos which are automatically processed to object panorama and can be processed to 3D model anytime in the future.
How many items can I scan within one day?
Based on our experience scanning over 100.000 items, it is feasible to scan 25 standard objects per day, if the items are prepared well in advance, cleaned and moved from depository.
What is the preparation time of an object?
Preparation time of an object depends on the characteristic of the object. Standard object is a self standing object not requiring support and weight below 25 kg, so that 1-2 people are able to move it. It takes just a couple of minutes to prepare
a standard object. Other objects such as objects requiring support, hanging objects, elongated objects, heavy weight objects, macro objects and living objects require longer preparation time.
What is the maximum weight of the object to scan?
Our standard turntable allows us to scan objects up to 400kg. If required, we can scan objects up to 1500kg.
What kind of premises do I need for renting or buying Witikon?
Optimum conditions are 6 x 6 meters and a ceiling of minimum 4,5m. If one intends to scan only smaller objects, the required ceiling height would be 2,5-3m. Device can be dismantled into small components, which fit into doors and staircases.
How long does it take to produce Witikon?
We are able to produce a customized version of Witikon exclusively for you in 2-3 months.
How long does it take to set up and dismantle Witikon after the scanning was finished?
Set up in your premises takes up to 2 days. Dismantling of the system after scanning takes 1 day.
How much staff do I need to operate Witikon on a daily basis?
Unlike competitive devices, Witikon requires only one person for daily operations.
Who is handling items to be scanned?
Only the employees of the museum, such as curators and their teams. The operator of the Witikon system does not need to touch the item during the process at all.
What is the output of the scanning process?
One scanning cycle of 6 minutes generates 288 professional photographs, which can be displayed online as one object panorama or as a 3D model – low or high resolution.
What is the format of the data delivered?
Final data are available in uncompressed .TIFF and .JPEG. Additionally, we can deliver you data in RAW format (PHASE ONE or Canon). Depends on the scope and scale of the digitalization project. One RAW shot in 80MPix quality takes around 85MB of data space. The 3D model is available in OBJ and PLY. If required, we can also provide other formats of 3D models.
How much data storage is required?

A typical WITIKON Object Panorama consists of 288 images created simultaneously by 4 camera units. What concerns the 3D models, the size ranges from 500MB – 5GB per collection item. The 3D model is available in OBJ and PLY. If required,we can also provide other formats of 3D models.

What is the resolution of the scanning units?
You can choose from several options. Canon EOS 5Ds R with 50MPix and high-end option with medium format digital backs PHASE ONE IQ3 80 with 80MPix.
How much exposure to light and what kind of light do the items get during the scanning?
We are using professional studio flash systems and continous light with UV filters to protect the scanned object.
What kind of optical lenses are used in WITIKON scanning system?
There are two main options: Canon EOS equipped system uses the best Canon EF L-Series lenses, the high-end model equipped with PHASE ONE medium format 80MPix digital backs employs the best Schneider-KREUZNACH leaf-shutter LS lenses and PHASE ONE zoom lenses with our own solution for remotely controlled zoom.
How long does it take to change from horizontal to vertical scanning?
In comparison to other competitive devices, it is not required to manually adjust our device, it is fully automated and takes seconds.
What is the solution of scanning the underside of the object?
We incorporated a hanging rotary unit into the system which enables us to scan the underside of the object. We can also shoot the underside of the object manually and incorporate it into the stitching process and 3D reconstruction.
What is the main difference between 3D model and Object Panorama?
Object panorama has many benefits over 3D models. It is cost-saving, faster, has higher visual quality and every standard PC can view it. It is especially suitable for museum professionals. Furthermore, object panorama is the best possible source for creation of 3D model, which can be easily generated on demand.
